NYCN Ikorodu Central Launches 6-Month Free Vocational Training for 20 Youths — Empowering Skills Development in Key Trades

 In a significant move to tackle youth unemployment and promote skill acquisition, the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Ikorodu Central Branch, has commenced a fully funded 6-month vocational training program for youths within Ikorodu Central.


The initiative covers a wide range of high-demand vocational trades, including:  

Hairdressing, Hair Barbing, Fashion Designing, Catering, Makeover Artistry, Event Planning & Decoration, Photography, and other related skills. The program is designed to equip participants with practical, income-generating expertise that can foster self-reliance and entrepreneurship.


The application window opened from 1st to 8th June 2026, attracting 100 applicants from across Ikorodu Central. Following a rigorous three-week screening exercise held at the Ikorodu Central Secretariat Council, 20 successful candidates were shortlisted based on merit, commitment, and potential for growth.


The registration of the 20 selected participants was concluded today at the Vocational Training Center. The training is officially scheduled to commence on 1st July 2026 and will run for six months.


The program is spearheaded by Comrade Olorunbe Boluwatiwi Islamiat, Coordinator of NYCN Ikorodu Central Branch, whose leadership continues to drive youth-focused development initiatives in the division.


This intervention aligns with broader efforts to reduce unemployment, promote vocational education, and empower young people with sustainable livelihood skills. By eliminating financial barriers to training, the NYCN Ikorodu Central Branch is creating direct pathways for economic inclusion and community development.


The National Youth Council of Nigeria reaffirms its commitment to youth empowerment and urges stakeholders, government agencies, and private organizations to support similar initiatives across Lagos State.
