Rain or Shine: Odokekere Residents Brave the Weather for INEC Voter Registration – Eyes on 2027
Community turnout strong as APC officials and Hon. Banjoko BBO ensure smooth CVR exercise in Ikorodu North.
Yesterday, the people of Odokekere community in Ikorodu, Lagos State, showed true resilience and civic commitment. Despite heavy rainfall, residents turned out in large numbers to participate in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise organized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
INEC staff arrived early with all necessary equipment, ready to register new voters and update existing ones ahead of future elections. What stood out was the enthusiasm of the people – some arrived before the rain even began, while others patiently waited under a nearby canopy when the downpour started. As soon as the rain eased, more community members rushed back to join the queue, undeterred by the weather.
The registration process wasn't without challenges. Network issues slowed things down at times, especially during the rain. But once the skies cleared, connectivity improved, and the exercise picked up pace.
Adding to the smooth running of the day was the visible presence of local leaders. Officials from the All Progressives Congress (APC) were on ground, working alongside the Councillor representing Ward E1 in Ikorodu North, Hon. Banjoko BBO (also known as the Majority Leader in the Ikorodu North LCDA Legislative Arm). Their hands-on involvement helped ensure the process went smoothly, addressing concerns and encouraging more participation.
I spoke with two residents who shared their experiences and thoughts on the exercise and the road to 2027:
- The first interviewee explained that the slow pace was mainly due to network challenges. Still, he remained optimistic: “I will definitely come out to vote in 2027,” he said. When asked about his preferred presidential candidate, he smiled and kept it close to his chest: “I'm not ready to reveal that yet.”
- The second person noted that the network was sluggish during the rain but became fast afterward. Interestingly, he expressed opposition to real-time transmission of election results. But on one thing he was clear: “Come 2027, my vote is for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
Stories like these highlight the growing political awareness in Odokekere and across Ikorodu. With the CVR window open (online pre-registration ongoing and physical registration active at INEC offices), this is the perfect time for eligible Nigerians to get registered or update their details.
Kudos to the resilient people of Odokekere for prioritizing their civic duty rain or shine. Your vote matters – 2027 is closer than it seems!
